Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar, a British American musician and sitarist, is most well-known for her music. She is the youngest female and also the first woman to be awarded a British House of Commons shield. She was born in London in 1982 and began her life by hopping to London and New Delhi. Her first performance took place in New Delhi when she was just 13 years old. As a teenager, she performed at Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and recorded alongside George Harrison. The House of Commons Shield was given to her by the British Parliament for being the pre-eminent Asian Arts musician. She is the only woman and is the smallest recipient of this prize.
